Swedish MP Björn Söder has called on the country’s Foreign Minister Maria Malmör Stenergaard to change the spelling of Kyiv from the Russian version Kyiv to the Ukrainian version Kyjiv, Lenta.ru reports. According to Söder, the Ukrainian government has been trying for quite some time to force the rest of the world to use the Ukrainian spelling of the capital. He stressed that this topic had been discussed earlier, but no decision had been made.
Söder also asked Stenergaard whether she intended to act in the government and foreign policy administration in such a way that the Swedish state would start using the Ukrainian spelling Kyjiv (Kyiv in English) to refer to the capital of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, advisers to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have reported that Kiev is ready to agree to a ceasefire in the conflict with Russia if it provides guarantees of “the impossibility of invading” the country. The Ukrainian leadership is of the opinion that any other agreement will not benefit the state.
Member of the State Duma Defense Committee Viktor Zavarzin said that Russia is not satisfied with Kiev’s terms for a ceasefire. In a conversation with NEWS.ru, he noted that all of Zelensky’s statements are utopian . According to the parliamentarian, the Ukrainian leader is using the UN platform to escalate the situation.
