In France, gas stations selling gasoline at a loss were promised compensation

Private petrol stations in Francewho agree to sell fuel at a loss after the ban is lifted will receive compensation from the government, the association of road companies reports Mobiliansciting a proposal by the Minister of Economy, Finance, Industry and Digital Sovereignty, Bruno Le Maire.

Association members took part in an urgent meeting with Bruno Le Maireas well as with the French Minister for Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacherand Minister Delegate, Olivia Gregoire. Representatives of retail enterprises assured ministers that allowing the sale of fuel at a loss for both private entrepreneurs and large chain companies would entail damage to independent gas stations, since they would have less opportunity to compensate for financial losses.

In response to this, the government expressed its readiness to create compensation fund for independent gas stations.

Let us recall that on Saturday, the Prime Minister of France, Elisabeth Borne, in an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien, announced that in the context of the continuing increase in average prices for gasoline and diesel in the country, the authorities are planning suspend the law 1963, prohibiting companies from selling fuel to themselves at a loss. According to her, such a measure would make it possible to achieve significant results in the fight against inflation, without the need to subsidize the fuel industry to curb price increases.
