A member of the Progress and Socialism team in the House of Representatives criticized the weakness of mountain tourism in Morocco, and described the Ministry of Tourism as a “lazy student” who works hard compared to neighboring experiences such as the Portuguese experience, which attracts 40 percent of Spanish tourists who prefer mountain tourism.
The island is only 14 kilometers away from Morocco and its area does not exceed 6 square kilometers, and it attracts 6 million tourists annually.
She also criticized, in an oral question today, Monday, in the oral questions session in the House of Representatives, “the limited attractiveness of domestic and mountain tourism in Morocco.”
She said not to “cover the sun with a sieve, because the reality is that tourism infrastructure and services are weak,” calling for tourism institutions to keep pace.
Rachid Hamouni, head of the team, said, “Morocco has mountainous areas with important natural landscapes, but the infrastructure is not suitable.”
The Minister of Tourism, Fatima Zahraa Ammor, explained that her ministry has prepared a road paper to encourage tourism and attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026, including the establishment of air routes between Ouarzazate and London, Barcelona, Marseille and the Canary Islands, and between Errachidia and Paris.
She stated that about 1.4 billion dirhams have been allocated to encourage tourism in the Draa-Tafilalet region, including infrastructure support, in addition to the rehabilitation of tourist attractions in other regions.
