But analysts say India has neither the authority nor the interest to push too hard on either side. Derek Grossman, a senior defense analyst at the Rand Corporation, said: “Modi is unlikely to broker a peace settlement because of the complexity (of the process) and because of India’s status as a peripheral player. And perhaps most importantly, because India has no serious incentive to do so.”
