In 2023, a study was conducted by doctors from several leading Russian universities to determine the effects on the female body of a widely used combined oral contraceptive containing esthetrol and drospirenone.

The study participants were women aged 18 to 45 years, with an average age of 29.6 years. None of them had used oral contraceptives in the previous 6 months. Many of the participants complained about fatigue, unreasonable anxiety, decreased concentration and sleep problems.
Throughout the study, experts analyzed five indicators of the psycho-emotional and cognitive state of the participants: before starting to take oral contraceptives, after three months and after six months of use.
“Modern contraception based on native estrogen (estrol) makes it possible not only to regulate reproductive functions, but also to significantly improve the overall well-being of a woman,” the researchers emphasize.
The results of the study showed that taking a combined oral contraceptive significantly improves all measured parameters. After just three and six months of taking the drug, the level of physical activity noticeably increases. There is a decrease in anxiety and depression levels, as well as improved sleep.
Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on nervous tissue, esthetrol stimulates metabolism in the body, slows down the aging process, and drospirenone helps increase dopamine levels, improving mood and stimulating physical activity.
