Jacklien Ibo Indonesian Basketball Legend Dies

The Indonesian sports world is grieving again. Jacklien Ibo who was a former Indonesian basketball player died today (Thursday 17 March 2022). Jacklien is one of the Indonesian women’s basketball legends.

The news of Jacklien’s death was conveyed by Perbasi via their official Instagram account.

“Our condolences on the passing of Jacklien Ibo”

“Goodbye, God loves you, so He will take away all your suffering. May all goodness and faith will accompany your path to a bright heaven.” Perbasi’s condolences were written on their Instagram account

Jacklien is a basketball athlete who has been actively playing since the late 2000s and has successfully represented Indonesia in various competitions

Jacklien has a lung disease

Quoting from the indosport page, the player who was born in Jayapura, on November 25, 1990, has a lung disease which has hampered his career in the world of basketball.

In fact, in recent years, Jacklien’s weight has dropped dramatically due to the disease. From the initial weight of 70 kilograms, shrank to 48 kilograms after suffering from the disease.

Condolences from Minister Erick Thohir

Erick Thohir, who owns the Satria Muda clan, expressed his loss and condolences for Jacklien’s departure

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. My deepest condolences for the passing of the Indonesian basketball hero, Jacklien Ibo.” Erick Thohit wrote on his personal Instagram account.

Erick also said that he had just met Jacklien during a visit to Papua. During his visit, he also guaranteed his medical expenses. Apart from Erick Thohir, Augie Fantinus, who is the former manager of the Indonesian women’s basketball team at the 2015 SEA Games, also visited Jacklien Ibo.

Jacklin Ibo is a female basketball player who is 177 cm tall and has a mainstay position as a power forward. During his career, he has collected various achievements. Among others:

History of Indonesian Basketball League and IBL 2023 Match Schedule

Quoting from IBL’s official website, the Indonesian Basketball League competition was first held in 2003. In that year there were only 12 teams participating in IBL, besides that at that time Perbasi was still standing independently.

The first IBL participating club covered six cities, namely Bogor, Bandung, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Salatiga, and Surabaya. From 2010 to 2015 the management of the Indonesian basketball league shifted to PT. Cross Basketball Detection (DBL) and renamed the National Basketball League.

However, in 2015 Perbasi appointed the Starting Five operator to manage the highest basketball competition in Indonesia and finally IBL returned to present Indonesia’s best basketball club competition. That year, CLS Knights Surabaya won the first edition of IBL Reborn.
