Don’t rush to update to iOS 17, take care of your phone

Experts decided to test Apple smartphones after the release of the new iOS 17 operating system to assess how much it affected their autonomy. And the results were quite unexpected.

Experts from iAppleBytes conducted an independent study, comparing the autonomy of various iPhone models before and after updating to iOS 17. The following models participated in testing: SE 2020, 8, XR, 11, 12 and iPhone 13. The experiment showed that the battery life of all iPhones was significantly reduced and reached its lowest levels since the release of iOS 14.

The iPhone XR is the least resistant to iOS 17which now holds a charge 21% worse compared to the previous version. Other models also showed a decrease in autonomy:

  • iPhone SE 2020 – deterioration by 9%;
  • iPhone 11 – 5% deterioration;
  • iPhone 12 – 5% deterioration;
  • iPhone 13 – 11% deterioration.

iOS 16.6.1 or 16.7 still provides good battery life for smartphones. Therefore, the study authors recommend sticking with these versions if battery life remains an important criterion for you.

In addition, it previously became known that Tinkoff Bank clients, after updating their smartphones to iOS 17, can no longer make transfers using Visa and MasterCard card numbers from other banks. It is also impossible to top up MIR accounts in Sberbank. This information was confirmed by bank representatives. However, no problems were found with other banking apps on iOS 17.
