Mikheil Saakashvili called on the current President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, to pardon him. The ex-president emphasized that this step could be the key to restoring political balance in the country.

Today, the Tbilisi City Court is considering two criminal cases related to Saakashvili: the dispersal of the rally in 2007 and the embezzlement of public funds. Saakashvili, who is undergoing treatment at a Tbilisi clinic, spoke at the trial remotely via video link. He called on the head of state, Salome Zurabishvili, to pardon him.

“In spirit, of course, I feel more cheerful, but physically… the doctors cannot confirm that I am better. Mrs. Salome can, with one stroke, return their father to my children and restore the political balance in Georgia,” ria quotes Saakashvili. ru

The ex-president of Georgia constantly states that his condition has worsened in prison. In a conversation with Bild, he said that he lost 55 kg in weight, suffered brain damage, often loses consciousness, and at some point was completely bedridden. The politician’s lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze reported that Saakashvili was diagnosed with 36 different diseases, including tuberculosis and dementia.

In 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the country’s President Vladimir Zelensky requested that Saakashvili be transferred to Ukrainian territory for subsequent medical examination outside Georgia. However, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, ruled out such a possibility.
