After the collapse of the Soviet Union, some countries continued the tradition of celebrating Knowledge Day on September 1. In Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Latvia, Armenia and some other countries, children still go to school on the first day of autumn. Classes also begin on the same day in some European countries: Belgium, Poland, Slovenia and Ireland.
