The Confederation of African Football has notified the local federations of new rules for the final regulations for the 2023 African Cup of Nations finals in Côte d’Ivoire, after the CAF African Cup of Nations Committee submitted a request to increase the number of players registered in each team’s roster.
The “Yalla Koura” website explained that Samson Adamu, Director of Competitions Department at CAF, sent a letter dated last November 14, which stated, “Each member association qualified to compete in the African Cup of Nations must send a first list of no more than 55 players.” “No later than 30 days before the start of the tournament, i.e. December 14, 2023.”
The same source added, “As for the final list, it includes 23 players for each team, and 4 players are allowed to be added to the list, provided that the teams bear the costs of travel and accommodation, with a fine imposed in the event of a violation.” This measure comes after the decision of the organizing committee of the African Cup of Nations to increase the possible number of players in the tournament. The final list is 27 players.
The same spokesman continued, “Each federation must provide the list no later than 10 days before the first match of the tournament, with a final list consisting of 23 players (or 27 at most).”
He explained, “Registering a maximum of 4 additional players on the final list in addition to the 23 stipulated in the regulations is just an option and not an obligation,” as each team will be able in each match of the tournament to choose 23 players on the match sheet from the total number of players registered on the list. Final for players.
Player jersey numbers must be between 1 and 23, and if the four additional players are included, their numbers must be between 24 and 27.
In its official letter, “CAF” specified that the list be registered by the deadline of January 3, 2024, at 10 p.m. GMT at the latest, and the Confederation of African Football established several disciplinary rules in the event of violating the deadlines, which are as follows:
First: Imposing a fine of 20,000 US dollars on any union that does not adhere to this decision and these dates.
Second: If the list of 23 players is not received by CAF 7 days before the start of the tournament, the concerned team will have the right to register only 21 players.
