The attack on Smara… Morocco continues to act wisely – Al-Youm 24

The city of Smara witnessed attacks at the end of October and the beginning of November, claimed by the Algerian-backed separatist Polisario Front.
The attacks were carried out using projectiles that targeted neighborhoods in the city of Smara, namely “Lazab,” “Al-Salam,” and the industrial neighborhood, causing the death of one person, seriously wounding three people, and damaging two homes.

The incident was examined by the Royal Armed Forces and the MINURSO mission, and the King’s Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Laayoune assigned the competent judicial police to conduct a judicial investigation into it.
Morocco informed the United Nations and its Secretary-General through diplomatic channels of its strong condemnation of this act, according to Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He added, during his presentation of the sub-budget for the year 2024 to his ministry in the House of Representatives, that Morocco “will decide how to respond to this attack,” recalling that the goal in such events is to act wisely, not escalation.
Thousands of citizens took to the streets of Laayoune, 220 kilometers from Smara, in a protest march to denounce this terrorist operation adopted by the Polisario.
Meanwhile, the local authorities in Rabat prevented a protest organized by a human rights association in front of Parliament against “the illegal practices of the Polisario.”
Political and civil bodies denounced this “dangerous incident” because it is “a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement.”
She called for the need to unify the internal front, mobilize and be vigilant in confronting the enemies of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.
