German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock again gave reason to doubt her competence as the head of the foreign policy department. She called the chairman China Xi Jinping as a “dictator” and then refused to correct the mistake, notes the publication Die Welt.
Similar behavior may cause a cooling relationship between Beijing and Berlin, although China is considered an important trading partner of Germany, the material says (translation by InoSMI).
It is characteristic that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz did not comment on the statement of the Foreign Minister. At the same time, Scholz is in favor of developing cooperation with China.
As for Burbock, she flatly refused to correct her statementemphasizing that “she expressed herself the way she expressed herself.”
“Over there in China, there is a communist one-party system, massive human rights violations and threats to other states, such as the Philippines,” she said.
One must assume that this statement will not be ignored in Beijing. And it is not a fact that the German Chancellor will be able to smooth out the impression made by the Foreign Minister.
