In July, the US said it would begin deploying weapons to Germany from 2026, including SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles, previously deployed mainly on ships, and new hypersonic missiles.

Deputy head of the Russian MFA Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow will choose from the widest possible range of options when developing a response to the deployment of American long-range missiles in Germany, while not ruling out any options, including the deployment of similar nuclear-armed systems. According to the chairman Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, Russia’s response will be tough and adequate; such weapons cannot be given to Germany.
