Due to rising prices for ingredients in Russia, cakes, one of the most beloved categories of holiday sweets, have become more expensive. This was reported by the SHOT Telegram channel with reference to a source in the confectionery industry.

As the channel’s interlocutors said, the main reason for the rise in prices for cakes was the rise in prices for milk, butter and cream with a fat content of 33%, the price tags for which increased by an average of 10-15%. Logistics costs also contribute, and they are not decreasing either.
As SHOT’s interlocutors told us, confectioners are not considering switching to cheaper ingredients to reduce the cost of cakes. Firstly, this will not help maintain prices, and secondly, it will have too strong an impact on the usual taste and quality of the products. As a result, on average, the price tags for “Honey cakes”, “Napoleons” and other cakes popular among Russians rose from 700 rubles to a thousand. And it seems that this is not the limit to price increases.
“If we want a delicious cake, it will cost from 1,000 rubles for 500-600 grams. Replacing with an alternative means using palm oil. Now we are all thinking about health, and no one will do this,” the brand shared with SHOT. Chief of the Vkusville supermarket chain Elena Lande.
