The rent for one-room apartments for students in cities has increased by 40 percent in a year

Today, you have to try really hard to rent a studio apartment near a university in Yekaterinburg, as there are almost no available lots left. Despite the fact that prices for a 34-square-meter apartment start at 35 thousand rubles. Over the year, one-room apartments have risen in price in Yekaterinburg by 28%, and those located near the city’s main university, UrFU, have risen by 48%. This is largely due to the fact that the city has big problems with transport. Getting from the outskirts of the city to the center, where almost all major universities are located, takes at least an hour and a half in crowded buses. Therefore, students prefer to overpay for rent closer to the university than to suffer with trips every day. Transport accessibility is still of great importance. Thus, an entire town of modern comfortable dormitories with all the amenities for 8,500 people was built for UrFU in Yekaterinburg. It would seem to be an excellent alternative to renting an expensive studio. Everything is included, from a washing machine and a kitchen to a coworking space. You can settle in the rooms one or two at a time. And all this costs ridiculous money, from 1,300 to 1,900 rubles per month. Live as much as you want. But the problem is that the campus was built on the very outskirts of the city, near the local airport, from where it is quite difficult to get to school – in traffic jams it takes two hours just one way. On top of that, the campus has practically no infrastructure: no pharmacies, no shops. That is why students do not even rush to this modern campus, preferring to rent housing closer to the university.
