US Announces New Aid Package for Ukraine – Promises More Different Missiles

The United States of America has announced a new package of military aid for Ukraine. This is stated in a statement by the US President Joe Biden, published The White House.

The package, he said, includes:

  • air defense missiles to protect Ukraine’s critical infrastructure;
  • anti-drone and anti-tank missile equipment to protect against Russia’s new battlefield tactics;
  • ammunition for soldiers on the front lines and mobile missile systems to protect them.

The US will also impose new sanctions against nearly 400 legal entities and individuals who are aiding Russia’s illegal war.

“Tomorrow, when the people of Ukraine celebrate their Independence Day, let this be clear: When Russia’s senseless war began, Ukraine was a free country. It is still a free country today. And the war will end when Ukraine is a free, sovereign, and independent country,” Biden said.

ADDITIONAL AT 23.02. President Volodymyr Zelensky clarifiedthat we are talking about the fourth sanctions package against the fuel and energy and metallurgical sectors, the financial sector and the Russian military-industrial complex.

He also noted the allocation of a new package of US defense support. “Ukraine is in critical need of weapons supplies from the announced packages, including additional air defense systems to reliably protect cities, communities and critical infrastructure,” he said.

  • Earlier, The Associated Press, citing unnamed American officials, reported that the aid package in question was worth $125 million. The weapons are being provided under the president’s authority to reduce weapons, meaning they are being taken from Pentagon stockpiles and can be delivered faster.
  • On July 29, the US announced a military aid package for Ukraine worth up to $200 million under the PDA mechanism, and the Pentagon subsequently announced another $1.5 billion package already according to a different program.
