Viktor Orbán negotiated with the president caught in a corruption scandal

During his visit to Switzerland, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with the former president of the International Football Association (FIFA) in Zurich on Tuesday, Bertalan Havasi, the prime minister’s press chief, informed MTI.

The Prime Minister and the sports leader had an informal conversation about their “shared passion”, the state of football and recent events

said the press chief.

Sepp Blatter, now 87 years old, was the full-power president of the International Football Association (FIFA) from 1998 to 2015.

During his reign, FIFA gained enormous influence and revenue, while the entire organization was riddled with corruption. This was most spectacularly embodied in the awarding of the World Cups, under Blatter’s presidency, Russia and Qatar were given the right to host the World Cup at the same time.

In May 2015, just before the FIFA Congress in Zurich, 9 top FIFA officials, including two vice-presidents, were arrested.

Despite the fact that Blatter was elected president for another four years at the congress, he announced his resignation a few days later due to the corruption scandal that broke out.
