Canadian cyclist rides 130 km hands-free

UPI writesAlberta resident Robert Murray has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance on a bicycle. He drove 80.95 miles (130.3 kilometers) in 5 hours 37 minutes without holding the steering wheel.

Murray said he massaged his legs with his hands when they got tired during the record attempt. He also noted that it is much more comfortable for him to travel this way – he can freely take things out of his backpack, and his back does not get tired, since it is not in a hunched state.

By setting the record, Murray tried to draw attention to the Alzheimer’s Society in Calgary. Many of his relatives suffer from this disease, and in this way the cyclist wanted to help other patients.

Recently French cyclists created record GPS velociraptor. The team noted that they chose this dinosaur to feature because its name sounds like “velo,” the French word for “bicycle.”
