Russia has zeroed out the import duty on eggs for six months | January 1, 2024

It was noted that the decision is aimed at ensuring stable prices for these products by increasing supply in the domestic market.

The government decree also approved the rules for issuing documents necessary for duty-free import of products to participants in foreign trade activities. The issuance of such documents will be ensured by Ministry of Agriculture.

According to Rosstat, in November, eggs rose in price by 15.07% compared to October, and since the beginning of the year, the cost of chicken eggs has increased by 36.54%. The situation has already attracted the attention of various departments. For example, the Federal Antimonopoly Service announced in mid-November that it had sent requests to egg producers about pricing.

At the same time, other measures are being taken. In mid-December, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture announced that supplies of eggs from Turkey were expected within two to three weeks. On December 24, Azerbaijan supplied the third batch of eggs in the amount of 306 thousand to the Russian Federation. The first delivery of Azerbaijani eggs in the amount of 36 tons (612 thousand pieces) took place on December 19. The second delivery was on December 21 in the amount of 18 tons (306 thousand units).

Stabilization of egg prices in Russia, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, is expected after the New Year against the backdrop of an increase in domestic production and the arrival of products from friendly countries at zero duty. In the production sector, a set of measures is being implemented to increase supply in the domestic market. In particular, a plan for additional increase in volumes has been agreed upon with the main producers. Along with this, some Russian retailers have decided to limit markups on various categories of chicken eggs.
