The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, reiterated this Wednesday the beneficial effects of regular migration but warned that it is “essential” for those who arrive in Spain illegally to return to their countries.

“Mainly -he said- because This return sends a discouraging messageclear, sharp and forceful to the mafias and to those who put themselves in their hands, but essentially because European and Spanish legislation requires it.”

Sanchez has referred to the need for these Returns of irregular migrants Speaking at an event at the Instituto Cervantes in Dakar where the initiative ‘Africa Advances Alliance‘ to promote investments in Senegal, which was the first stop on his agenda in this country, the last stage of the tour that has also taken him to Mauritania and Gambia.

It was during this speech that he referred publicly for the first time during the tour to the need for the return of people who arrive in Spain illegally.

He did so after referring to the migratory pressure existing today and insist on defending regular and orderly migration because it believes that it opens paths to prosperity and economic and cultural development and is good for both the country of origin and the receiving country.

In this regard, he highlighted the importance of the circular migration which Spain promotes with several countries, including Senegal, and through which workers are hired in their country of origin to carry out seasonal work in Spanish territory and, upon completion, return to their country.

In order to continue taking steps in this direction, the country has considered that security is a top priority and will therefore continue to support Senegal in this area in general and in particular in relation to migration.

Sánchez regretted that criminal networks that traffic in human beings continue to grow and play with the lives of thousands of people and are associated with other illicit trafficking and with terrorism.
