Motorists submitted applications to the Soglasie insurance company for compensation for losses due to snow on the roads in the amount of 42 million rubles, representatives of the insurer reported, citing statistics on claims for CASCO policies since December.

About 50% of calls are related to damage due to snow and ice blocks and icicles falling on cars from the roofs of houses and passing cars. Other “snow” incidents include accidents resulting from loss of control during snowfall, incidents with snow removal equipment and negligence of utility workers when removing snow from the courtyards of residential buildings and from the roofs of city buildings.

One of the largest in February was the insurance payment “Consent to the owner of a LADA Granta. The driver received 615 thousand rubles after an accident on a highway in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, which occurred at night during a snowfall. The car owner got caught in a stream of snow raised by an oncoming truck, and lost visibility , crashed into a road fence.

Another “expensive” insured event was a block of snow and ice that fell from the roof of a building in Moscow onto a Toyota Hilux. Soglasie paid the driver 400 thousand rubles. The insurance company notes that payments for “snow” incidents are made only under CASCO policies with the inclusion of the necessary risks. MTPL policies do not cover cases of damage to cars due to falling snow and ice or driving into snowdrifts.
