The press service of the regional prosecutor’s office reported that a resident of Tula, aged 80, lost her apartment and several million rubles after communicating with scammers.

In early January, an unknown person, introducing himself as an FSB officer, approached the pensioner. He warned her about scammers trying to take out loans in her name and persuaded her to transfer money to a “safe” account to save her savings. Trusting the caller, the woman transferred a million rubles using the specified details.

Later, false FSB officers contacted the woman again, persuading her to sell her apartment and transfer the proceeds to a “safe” account. Thus, the scammers took possession of another four million rubles, and the total damage amounted to five million.

A pensioner who fell into a trap contacted the police. In this case, a criminal case was initiated under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud on an especially large scale”). An investigation is currently underway to apprehend the criminals.
