Earlier, Trump said at a rally of supporters in South Carolina that when he was president, the head of an unnamed “big country” NATO asked him whether the United States would provide protection to the alliance in the event of an “attack” by Russia. Trump told him that he would not do this, since NATO countries do not allocate enough funds for defense. The ex-president added that he would “approve if they (the Russian Federation) do whatever the hell they want.”
