Before you begin the process, make sure you have all the necessary equipment: dog shampoo, a soft sponge or brush, a towel, and, if possible, a shower or bath. Also make sure your dog is calm and relaxed.
- Comb the fur: Use a brush to rake through your dog’s hair before washing. This will help remove dry patches of dirt and accumulated hair, making the washing process easier.
- Prepare your bath or shower: If you can, place your dog in the bath or shower. Make sure the water is a comfortable temperature, not too hot and not too cold.
- Wet the wool: Gently wet your dog’s fur, avoiding getting water into his ears and eyes. Use a bowl or shower head with a gentle flow.
- Apply shampoo: Apply a small amount of dog shampoo to the coat and rub thoroughly, forming a lather. Avoid contact with eyes and ears.
- Rinse thoroughly: Thoroughly rinse all the shampoo from your dog’s coat, making sure the water is clean. Do not leave any shampoo residue as this may cause skin irritation.
- Dry the fur: Gently dry your dog’s fur with a soft towel. Help her dry off by avoiding drafts or using a hairdryer, which could frighten her.
- Reward them: Once the process is complete, reward your dog with affection or a treat. This will help reinforce a positive perception of the procedure and make it more enjoyable next time.
