“Israel” will not attend Mediterranean parliamentary meetings that open Thursday in Rabat, “to relieve embarrassment” (parliamentary source)

Identical parliamentary sources told Al-Youm 24 that the Zionist entity will not participate in the seventeenth session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, which the Moroccan Parliament will host next Thursday and Friday.

An official parliamentary source explained that 19 Mediterranean countries were confirmed to participate in addition to Morocco, and the list did not include “Israel.” In return, Palestine will participate in the meetings.

Participating in the meetings scheduled for February 15 and 16 are Egypt, Palestine, Italy, Greece, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Finland, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Luxembourg, Monaco, Montenegro, Malta, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Poland.

A parliamentary source said that “Israel” will not participate in the meetings that will be hosted by the Moroccan Parliament “to relieve embarrassment.” On the other hand, another source said, “Actually, so far Israel has not participated, but we do not know what will happen in the last minute before the meetings open next Thursday morning.” .

A statement to the House of Representatives said that the participants in the meetings of the aforementioned assembly “will discuss the situation in the Mediterranean region, and the role of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the twenty-first century,” and the “Call to the Future” directed by A party of students from the Euro-Mediterranean University in Fez, and the approval of the reports and recommendations of the permanent committees and the working group, before the rotating presidency of the association is handed over to the northern bank of the Mediterranean, specifically to the Spanish House of Representatives.

According to the same report, the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco is considered “among the founders of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, and has held its presidency since April 2022. It has also previously hosted a number of its sessions and meetings of its permanent committees.”

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean represents a space for Mediterranean dialogue and cooperation. It meets in plenary session at least once a year and includes representatives from the elected European Union countries and their partners from the southern Mediterranean countries. It has 280 members representing 43 parliaments out of 42 countries. In addition to the European Parliament, they are distributed equally between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
