Le Pen intends to run in French presidential elections

Marine Le Pen, leader of the parliamentary faction of the French National Unity Party, announced her intention to run in the French presidential elections in 2027. During an interview with TF1 TV channel, she said that she does not plan to give up her seat Jordan Bardella, the young leader of the National Unity Party who succeeded her ahead of the 2022 elections. Le Pen confirmed that she remains her group’s traditional candidate in the presidential election.

In the 2022 presidential election, Marine Le Pen reached the second round, but ultimately lost to the incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron, gaining 41.45% of the votes against 58.55%. After the elections, she resigned from her post as leader of the National Unity Party, which was temporarily headed by Jordan Bardella. However, she did not rule out running for president again in the future.

The first round of the 2027 French presidential election is scheduled for April, the exact date has not yet been determined. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the first round, the top two candidates will advance to the second round of voting, which will take place two weeks later. Emmanuel Macroncurrently serving his second presidential term, is ineligible to stand for re-election after the end of his term.
