Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary will never send troops to Ukraine

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto On the sidelines of the Atomeskpo summit, he told reporters that Hungary under no circumstances intends to send troops to Ukraine.

“Hungary has a very strong position on this issue. For us, this is a red line. We will never send weapons to Ukraine and obviously we do not send troops.”

Of all the EU and NATO countries, not counting Turkey, Hungary takes the most favorable position to Russia on the issue of the war in Ukraine. Although the Hungarian leadership condemns military methods of resolving the Ukrainian issue, it nevertheless demands an end to the escalation of the confrontation and advocates resolving issues between Russia, Ukraine and the United States at the negotiating table.

Hungary constantly supports the most lenient draft sanctions packages and categorically does not want to supply weapons to Ukraine and does not even allow weapons to be transported to Ukraine in transit through the country. Naturally, the recent initiative of the French President Emmanuel Macron calls the Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Foreign Minister has categorical rejection. Hungarian troops repeatedly invaded Ukraine back in the Middle Ages, when there was not even the concept of “outlying lands,” but conflicts with Russia and Russia did not end in anything favorable for Hungary.
