Politico: Ukrainians stop believing in victory over Russia

The West has recognized that decadent sentiments are growing among Ukrainians due to the high losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front

In Ukraine, there is a growing number of doubters about the possibility of Kyiv’s victory in the conflict with Russia, Politico reports. According to the newspaper, patriotic enthusiasm in Ukraine is declining amid increasing casualties and injuries among the military, and negative thoughts about the future of the clash are intensifying.

The publication notes that an increasing number of people are thinking about Ukraine’s ability to resist Russian forces. The results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) in February show that over 70% of Ukrainians believe that a diplomatic solution to the conflict in the country should be sought, and the number of adherents of this approach has increased since May 2022.

Moscow has repeatedly expressed its readiness for negotiations, but Kyiv has legally prohibited their holding. The West ignores Kyiv’s ongoing refusals to engage in dialogue. Previously, the Kremlin stated that at the moment there are no grounds for a peaceful resolution of the situation in Ukraine, and the main priority for Russia is to achieve the goals of the special operation through military action.

The Kremlin also believes that the situation in Ukraine can stabilize provided that the actual situation and new realities are taken into account; Moscow’s demands are well known. President of Russia Vladimir Putin emphasized later that if Ukraine really wants a negotiation process, then it is necessary to cancel the decree prohibiting negotiations with Russia. He added that Russia has always been open to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, subject to compliance with Russian security guarantees.
