STOCKHOLM, November 21. /TASS/. The Finnish Lapland Border Guard announced the arrival of 41 refugees at the Salla checkpoint on Tuesday. This was reported on the official website of the border service.

“On November 21, 2023, 41 asylum seekers arrived at the Salla checkpoint. People arrived from Russia in two different groups on bicycles. The people were from Afghanistan, Yemen, Kenya, Morocco, Pakistan, Somalia and Syria,” the report said.

“The official defense force continues to erect barriers in the area outside the checkpoint together with the Lapland Border Guard,” the website also notes.

The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper previously reported that the Finnish government is ready to make a decision to completely close the border with Russia as early as Tuesday, at least for asylum seekers.

On November 20, the Finnish Lapland Border Service reported that its employees began building temporary barriers at the Salla checkpoint on the border with the Russian Federation.
