Speed cameras installed on roads and marked with special signs warn drivers of the need to comply with the established limits. Noticing such signs, drivers often urgently reduce speed. njcar portal. ru I found out from a traffic police representative whether the cameras have time to record a violation before the driver sees the corresponding sign.

By law, signs are installed 150-200 meters before the installation site of the photo-video recording complex. About 50 meters before this, the driver can already notice the infrared illumination of the device lenses. The range of systems may vary. Some cameras installed on Russian roads use the Doppler effect. They include a transmitter and a radar receiver.

First, a probing pulse is sent into the flow of vehicles, then the device records its reflection. This process can be carried out over a distance of several kilometers.

However, in conditions of high traffic density, recognizing individual vehicles presents certain difficulties. To solve this problem, a camera combined with an emitter is aimed at a specific object.

Depending on the type of lens, it is capable of detecting objects at a distance of 100 to 300 meters. In addition, it is important to remember that cameras are capable of recording violations from both the front and rear of the car.

For example, the small Arena and Chris complexes are designed to operate at a distance of up to hundreds of meters. The Cordon and Krechet systems can operate at a greater distance – up to 150 meters. They provide a fairly accurate recording of the speed of individual vehicles in four lanes simultaneously.

On wide city highways, modern speed control systems called “Strelka” are used. These systems are able to determine the type of vehicle at a distance of 250 to 300 meters. However, the camera itself takes a picture of the “target” already at a distance of 50 meters. In this case, the limitation on the range of infrared illumination becomes effective, especially at night.

That is why installed signs warning about the presence of cameras are located beyond 150-300 meters, giving drivers enough time to reduce speed in a timely manner.

Previously, Russia used Avtodoriya complexes designed to measure the average speed of cars along the entire route section. It was pointless to slow down in front of such devices. However, such systems do not work now, since fines for average speed have been abolished.
