In some unusual situations, when a driver who is not included in the MTPL policy has to get behind the wheel, he may face negative consequences in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

njcar portal. ru contacted a representative of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate to explain what fines and consequences such drivers could expect.

According to Article 12.37 of the Administrative Code, driving a vehicle without taking into account the terms of the MTPL insurance policy entails a fine of 500 rubles. However, if the fine is paid within the first 20 days after receiving the decision, its amount is reduced to 250 rubles. It is important to note that only a police officer can draw up a violation report, and cameras do not record such cases.

If there are explanations about the reasons for driving without a compulsory motor liability insurance policy, the police officer may limit himself to a warning. In the event of a fine, the driver can calmly eliminate the violation by going to the office of the insurance company and then reporting it to the police officer, which can prevent repeated fines for not having a compulsory motor liability insurance policy.
