Dietary supplements, or dietary supplements, are dietary supplements containing a variety of components such as vitamins, minerals, trace elements, plant elements (such as flower parts and herbs), amino acids, enzymes and live microorganisms (probiotics). They are available in a variety of forms, including tablets, chewable tablets, gelatin capsules, powder, syrup, dry preparations and energy bars.

In accordance with Russian legislation, dietary supplements are considered food products and can be consumed. However, the question of the necessity of their use is more complex. Nutritional supplements are not drugs, but just part of the diet. The benefits of consuming them can be achieved by following a varied diet and including fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat and cereals.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) emphasizes that dietary supplements are not intended to treat pain or heart disease, which is the sole function of drugs. In accordance with Russian laws, each package of dietary supplements must be marked with the phrase “not a medicine.”
It should be noted that some manufacturers of dietary supplements may mislead buyers by promising an effect that may be unfounded. For example, adaptogen supplements may promise to increase stress resistance and energy, but such substances have not been proven to be effective. A doctor may recommend taking a dietary supplement if your diet is lacking important nutrients and changing your diet is not possible, but it is important to emphasize that improving the quality of your diet is preferable.
