In Ukraine, they allowed to write the word “Russia” with a small letter. This was stated by the National Commission on State Language Standards.

The National Commission noted that writing the names “Russian Federation”, “Russia”, “Moscow”, “Muscovy”, “Moscow Kingdom”, “Russian Empire””, “State Duma of the Russian Federation” and the like with a small letter may not qualify as evasion from the norms of the Ukrainian language in unofficial texts.

The commission discussed this issue taking into account official letters from the Institute of Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Linguistics at the request of the Minister for Reintegration Irina Vereshchuk.

Earlier, the Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lesnoy issued an order to write the name of the state “Russian Federation” in capital letters in official documents.
