Specialists from the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor shared information with Russians about the benefits and harms of bananas, and also gave recommendations on their proper storage.

Bananas are rich in potassium and contain tryptophan, which in our body turns into the “happiness hormone”. Thanks to fiber, this fruit helps stabilize blood glucose levels and is rich in beneficial vitamins and minerals.

However, bananas also have disadvantages. High carbohydrate content and the potential to cause bloating are among them. Experts also note that bananas interact with some medications and can raise potassium levels in the blood to dangerous levels.

It is not recommended to store bananas in the refrigerator, since at low temperatures they release ethylene, a gas that promotes their rapid ripening and possible spoilage of other fruits and vegetables. The ideal option would be to place the bananas in a separate container with a tight lid.
