Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo made a statement that closed borders with Russia affect the lives of people and organizations. The corresponding statement was made in the New Year’s address published on the website of the country’s government.

In addition, Orpo emphasized that problems related to migration at the Finnish border have not ceased to be relevant.

He noted that the government is monitoring the situation and working to resolve the situation to stop migration flows.

“Closing the border [с Россией] made the daily lives of many people and businesses difficult,” Orpo said.

He also noted that the security of Finland and its borders is a priority for the authorities. Finland is not ready to compromise on this issue.

Previously reported that Russian-speaking citizens of Finland appealed the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers to close the border with Russia. The applicants demanded that the decision of the Finnish Cabinet of Ministers to close the eastern border be canceled “as unconstitutional.” The authors of the complaint stated that the Finnish government’s decision to close the border with Russia violates freedom of movement while the country has a ban on discrimination.
