During washing, the number of microbes decreases, but they are not completely killed. In order to finally get rid of microorganisms, the temperature must be above 100 degrees, and this is impossible in conventional washing machines, said Andrei Shestakov, head of the microbial biotechnology group at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University.
