A Sochi resident who financed a terrorist organization was sentenced to 8.5 years.

Native of Uzbekistan Bekzodbek Saidov, living in Sochi, was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison in a maximum security penal colony for assisting a banned terrorist organization under Part 1.1 of Art. 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Kuban.BFM reports with reference to the press service of the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don.

As the investigation established, in December 2021, and then in July 2022, the convict transferred money from his account to the electronic wallets of the banned organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham*, data about which he found on the Internet.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham* is a Sunni Islamist group involved in the Syrian civil war. Many analysts consider it one of the branches of Al-Qaeda*.
