The head of the Belgian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the United States is putting pressure on the EU because of Russian assets

Belgian Foreign Minister Aja Labib said the United States is putting pressure on the European Community regarding frozen assets Russia. Belgium is currently the presiding country of the European Union.

According to Lyabib, the pressure is due to the fact that the United States is facing with difficulties in reconciliation new assistance to Kyiv due to internal problems. Lyabib emphasized that with regard to Russia’s frozen assets, the EU is moving forward, but cautiously.

The minister noted that Russian assets worth 200 billion euros frozen in the EU raise many legal and financial questions. She also mentioned unresolved issues within the Group of Seven that also require resolution.

Lyabib recalled that the EU Council on Monday agreed on a new regulation, which provides for the storage of windfall income from Russian assets in special accounts in European financial institutions for their possible use in the future in the interests of Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports.

She also noted that the European Commission had made an important decision obliging financial institutions to keep unplanned income from frozen Russian assets separately. The next step will be exploring the possibility use of these incomes for Ukraine, taking into account possible risks for financial markets.

Let us recall that recently discussions in the West have revived regarding the possibility of confiscation of Russian assets. As far as can be understood, initiators of the discussion The USA spoke. But in this country, relatively few assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation were frozen.
