King Mohammed VI of Morocco has impressed the world with his incredible display of compassion and solidarity in times of need. As a true symbol of the unity of his country, the Moroccan leader came to the University Hospital of Marrakech, the city most affected by the Saturday earthquakeand became a blood donor.

Muhammad VI did not enjoy the privileges and welcoming ceremonies that often accompany his visits. Instead he modestly stood in line, where those who wanted to help those affected by the disaster were waiting. It is reported that several thousand Moroccans throughout the country have become donors these days.

Having completed the blood collection procedure, the king walked along the corridors of the medical facility, where, according to preliminary data, there are now more than 2,100 people, 484 of whom are in serious condition. He visited intensive care units and hospitalizations, inquiring about the health of the wounded.

Earlier, Mohammed VI declared three days of mourning in the country. To date, the number of Moroccans killed as a result of the earthquake has reached 2,901, with 5,530 injured. Large-scale search and rescue efforts are still ongoing, as there are still people in need of help under the rubble of destroyed buildings. A real miracle happened in Marrakesh: three days after the tragedy, a living newborn baby with an umbilical cord was pulled out of the rubble. Where his mother is is not yet clear.

Let us remind you that the first earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred on Saturday night 80 kilometers from Marrakesh. 20 minutes later, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded at least four more tremors in Morocco.
