Deadly rally race: a serious director’s decision that a driver with an R5 car was given permission to start without a serious rally history

This was János Tóth’s fourth (!!) race, yet he was able to compete in Sunday’s Esztergom-Nyerges Rally with one of the strongest and best cars in the sport, an R5 Skoda.

So far, four people have died in the accident that took place on Sunday’s Esztergom-Nyerges Rally between Lábatlan and Bajót. Unfortunately, it is possible that the number of victims will increase, since according to the ambulance service, one child was taken to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, one person with serious injuries, and six people, including a child, with minor injuries.

Almost everyone in the sport is upset, and in addition to expressing their condolences, people are asking the authorities more and more questions. For example, how can a competitor – in this case the 31-year-old János Tóth – who has no appreciable rally history, get an “A” license, based on the photo, this was his fourth (!!) competition. In addition, with a racing car driven by the best professionals in championship races. It is a legitimate question, who authorized this in the Hungarian National Motorsport Association, and who will take responsibility for all this in the MNASZ.

Seeing the tragic footage, the question also arises,

I wonder why there were not enough security personnel on the field to prevent people from entering the area closed to spectators. Especially not children!

Then it also needs an explanation as to why the authorities do not pay more attention to the fact that at the races of the organizer, the Győr-based Arrabona Rally (ARC), safety should come firstafter in the previous competition organized by the company in 2013 a spectator died in similar circumstances during the sixth stage of the Bakony Adventure Park Cup in Városlőd.

The management of the Hungarian National Motorsport Association expresses its condolences to the relatives and family members, but they remain silent. Of course, the usual slogan was fired:

the circumstances of the accident will be immediately investigated in cooperation with the authorities, and the MNASZ and the competition organizers will not provide further information or statements until the investigation is completed.

Arrabona Rally Club, the organizer of the race, first issued a short statement on its social media page, which revealed that the 11th Esztergom-Nyerges Rally will be interrupted due to an accident on the Lábatlan-Bajna stage of the race. Later, the supervisory board decision to stop the season opener of ORB2, ORB3 and Historic was also published.

A few hours before the accident, it was written that oil had entered the track.

The accident is on video

Several videos of the accident are made public. In the footage published on RTL Híradó’s website, it is clear how fast the car spins and drifts off the road.

The terrible scene can be seen from another angle:
