The first threat comes from toluene (PhMe), which has a mild narcotic effect. The substance is found in candles made from paraffin or petroleum-based wax. Long-term exposure to high concentrations of PhMe can affect the nervous system, causing inhibition and disturbances in the vestibular system, as well as the respiratory system.

The candles also contain benzidine, which is found in some dyes. There is also a relationship between exposure to a substance and the risk of developing bladder cancer.

As an alternative, some experts advise using natural flavors rather than synthetic ones. Depending on the range, you can also use soy and beeswax candles.
