The tennis player from Sopron, ranked 188th in the world ranking, clashed with the 19-year-old free-card Australian Talia Gibson (270th) in the second round of the qualifiers.

In the first set, Babos went from 0:3 to 4:3, but in the end his opponent got the upper hand. In the continuation – according to the report of the social media page of the Hungarian association – the home player kept the break advantage gained in the fourth game until 5:2, then at 5:3 he could have served for the main board, but Babos broke back and reversed, thus the final game came.

The 30-year-old Hungarian tennis player was in control the whole time, he twice took Gibson’s service game, so he finally triumphed 5:7, 7:5, 6:2.

For now, it is not known who Tímea Babos’ first opponent will be in the main draw of 64. The Hungarian player is also interested in doubles in Brisbane, on the side of Ukrainian Marta Kosztyuk, starting as the seventh seed among the top 16.
