The Gosuslugi mobile application will not replace paper documents

The Gosuslugi mobile application will not be able to completely replace paper documents, such as IDs, certificates and passports, the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation confirmed. It will retain its status as a supplement to paper documents.

The official document clarifies that the Gosuslugi mobile application can be used as an alternative to paper documents only in certain everyday situations. However digital copies cannot replace original paper documents.

From the point of view of situations in which it will be possible to use the Gosuslugi mobile application to confirm identity, the decision will be made by the Russian government in the future. It’s important to note that use of this application remains voluntary.

Previously, a decree on a digital passport was signed, which allows Russian citizens to provide a document by opening the State Services application on their mobile phone to confirm their identity.

Vladimir Putin supported the proposal of the Ministry of Digital Development to create a digital passport on smartphones
